Daisy Johnson was called by God to quit her job and by faith start helping the poor and disadvantaged. She had few assets of her own but depended on God and His people for donations and funds. Her ministry is now in its 28th year of operation. Starting from a small space at her church, the Rescue Temple Church of God, the ministry has grown into a nonprofit charity with its own building at 725 Whittier in Avondale since 1990.
Avondale is one of the poorest communities in Cincinnati. The people helped are often in desperate need. Rescue Community Center serves approximately 150 people each week with groceries, clothing, furniture, and counseling. Rescue Community Center is a nonprofit, faith based Christian charity. The budget is met by donations from churches and individuals. All staff are volunteers. No salaries are paid and no government funds have ever been used.
Rescue Community Center is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am until 4pm. No one is turned away.
